i-Pill - boon or bane?

"Q. What are the two things that have beaten the economic downturn in India? A. IPL and i-Pill!" - aptly read the sms that I had received a couple of months ago. But the recent splurge in the promotional activities (numerous TV commercial during prime time, advertisements on Meru Cabs, slideshows on the advertising LCDs at Cafe Coffee Day, hoardings at prominent crossings and bus stops, jingles on FM radio channels, etc.) of i-Pill make me wonder something else - Is i-Pill promoting more unprotected and unsafe sex than preventing unwanted conception? Is i-Pill promoting more of unplanned sex amongst youth? What really could be the repercussions if my doubts are valid, given the fact that India is already among the front-runners of the number of HIV +ve cases?

Can the safety warning (which is hardly legible on the i-Pill website and reads - Important safety aspects: i-pill is neither a regular contraceptive nor an abortion pill. It is not a substitute for condoms and does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS.) be made a mandatory part of any promotional activity for all similar products?

See advertising I-pill is not bad, it just tell us a safe way to avoid pregnancy.

The other things you talked about are already there, and I don't think advertising i-pill will have any effect on that.

If people want to go for unsafe sex, they will go for it, i-pill or no i-pill, but atleast i-pill will provide some relief to the women who otherwise have to go thru the consequences.

i-pill is new and the in-thing..
condom story is old and now boring for many..lol...

jo naya wahi chade...
aur chadte ka naam sitara...

ok..
lets tke an example...of one garba/dandia night...

in hurry and in mood of celebration u go to the event...enjoyed a lot...danced a lot on the floor and after that on bed....everything and something happened....ok..

now from where would u get a condom b4 doing it in that hour of the day....moreover when passions r high u seldom think of a condom...isn't it...

now u did it...
sab ho gaya...heating and also cooling...also slept the night all through...woke up...had breakfast...discussed...thought...mused....and then the girl took the i-pill.....simple...lols...72 hours hai na man....

so this is how it has became the hot and happening thing....

@ Anjuli - A few points to enlighten you:

1. i-Pill is not a safe way to avoid pregnancy. It's is not a 100% assurance.

2. i-Pill doesn't protect you from STDs (AIDS, etc.)

3. I do not have any problem with the current advertising except the fact that it should carry the disclaimer message that i-Pill doesn't prevent STDs.

4. I accept that it is a great invention for women who want to prevent conception (especially rape victims).

5. i-Pill in a way gives you the liberty to have unsafe sex and still prevent conception, so some people might actually become victims of STDs.

@ Yogesh - Nice example and story. But the couple might still be vulnerable to STDs. Btw, why specifically a garba/dandia night? Anything interesting of which I'm not aware? :p

@ Shikha - I remember that incident :) Thanks to your ignorance! :p
